Brushing Up Our Math Skills

Next week we are taking an end of the year math test.  Please brush up on math skills at home.  Certain skills that need review are addition and subtraction with regouping, measurement (yards, feet, centimeters), place value,  patterns, expanded form and standard form, fact families, even and odd numbers, time and money.  I know this is a lot but there are several math websites that have fun games to review these skills.  You can always try studyladder.com or studyisland.com too.

Caterpillars are here!

We have exciting news!  Our class has caterpillars and we will be observing them daily watching them change in the life cycle.  Ask your child what they observed today.  Ask them everyday until he or she comes home telling you we have butterflies!  It is very exciting watching this life process at school.

Here are some pictures from day 1 in the classroom:

Research Reports

We are beginning to write research reports in writing.  The students have compiled a list of topics that they are interested in writing about. I have asked the children to decide with you 1 topic that they would like to write about.
I wish I had enough books about animals and presidents in my classroom or in our school library for the students to research but I do not.   So, I would like each student to go to the local library and check out at least 2 books on an animal or president of their choosing.  I would also like at least 1 printed article about the topic. www.nationalgeographic.com/kids  is a great website for animals and  http://www.whitehouse.gov/ is a great website for US Presidents.
Please send these into school no later than Monday, February 27, 2012.  The children will keep all materials in their cubbies and I will send them home in time so that you do not have any late fees at the library.

Thank you,

Mrs. Pacciano

Thank You and Family Fitness Night

Thank you to all who brought in those wonderful Valentine's Treats!  We had a wonderful few days celebrating in the classroom.

Family Fitness Night will be on March 13 from 6-8pm.  This is a wonderful night for fun with your kids.
During this event the school will hold a silent auction where all proceeds will go to the Jay Fund.  The Jay Fund is a non-profit organization that helps families with children with Cancer.  Each class is responsible for making a basket.  Our classes them is Taste of Italy, this is a basket of fine Italian foods and more. I have only had one student donate and I would love to see more donations come in.  I myself have purchased  lots of delicious items already but we can use more.  We still need thingslike Italian cookbooks or cooking magazines.  Cooking utensils like cheese graters and wooden spoons and forks, pasta dishes.  I have already received a donation from Carrabas for the gift basket but I would love more gift card donations.
Any donations will be greatly appreciated by the school and the Jay Fund.

Thank you and I hope to see you at Family Fitness Night!

100th Day of School this Friday

I cannot believe it but this Friday is the 100th Day of School.  This year is flying by fast!
We will spend the day celebrating with lots of fun activities.   One activity will be making a special 100th Day Snazzy Snack.    Each student has been asked to bring in something to contribute and it should be written in his or her planner.  Please check your child's planner and send the ingredients in by Friday.  Thank you so much for your participation.
