Reading Festival Week and Field Trip Reminder

This week is going to be one fun week at school.  Today we kicked it off with an assembly where Mrs. combs introduced this years Books of the Month.  We then watched a skit written by Mrs. Ray, one of our 5th grade teachers.  The children really enjoyed it!

Tomorrow Mr. O'Meara and a Naval Officer from NAS Jax will be reading to the class for our Dudes do Read day!  The students love listening to stories and it's great to listen to men read, especially for our boys!

On Wednesday the children will be marching in "Our Favorite Book" parade.  I sent a letter home last week but as a reminder I would like the children to dress up as their favorite book character.  No store bought costumes are necessary.  It should be a fun and creative costume.  Please send in the book your child is dressing as so that they can hold it during the parade!  Parents are welcome to come and watch the children and take lots of pictures.
On Thursday we will be walking around the halls of our 4th and 5th grades Wax Museum.  This is a wonderful project put on by the upper grades and 2nd and 3rd grade get to learn about many famous people in history from George Washington to Michael Jordan.  The kids will have fun telling you all about it on Thursday night!

Friday we have no school!  Mrs. Pacciano will be there cleaning, planning and organizing!  Enjoy the 3 day weekend!

Don't forget that when you come back to school on Monday we will be having our 1st field trip to UNF for a nature walk.  Reminder:  wear jeans, sneakers and your blue Bartram Springs t-shirt.  If you do not have a Bartram Spring shirt maybe another blue shirt will work.  Bring a bagged lunch and an extra drink.  We might get thirsty after all that walking!

Educational Websites

Here are a few websites that your child can use at home.

Compass Odyssey

http://odyssey.duvalschools.org

I put a label in the front of the children's planners with their Duval County Username and Password these can be used to access Compass Odyssey

Envision Student Text

https://www.pearsonsuccessnet.com

This website is the student text that goes with the math series.  You can use it to review what is being taught at school.  I sent a sheet home yesterday with Username and Passwords.
Usernames and Passwords are just the children's first and last names together with no spaces and the password is password.

Study Island

http://www.studyisland.com/

Study Island has several tests and games in reading and math.  Right now I have it set up for reading and writing and as the year progresses I will add more assignments.  Usernames and Passwords are the same as Envision Math with the exception of a few students.  They may have a 1 after their first and last names.

Have fun exploring the websites we use!
